An author of fiction, poetry, theater and nonfiction, and an investigator of the condition of women, she has often outlined complex and determined female figures in her texts, included in a broader reflection on multiple social issues, approached from a historical perspective. With The Long Life of Marianna Ucr\u00eca<\/em> she won the Campiello Prize in 1990. With the short story collection Buio<\/em> (1999) she won the Strega Prize.<\/p>\n

In 2007 she published Il gioco dell’universo<\/em>, in which she rereads her father’s writings, reconstructing his intellectual and existential journey, and Passi affrettati<\/em>, a theatrical text dedicated to the theme of violence against women, which was staged on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women; 2008 is also dated Il treno dell’ultima notte<\/em>, in which following the private story of the protagonist, some of the most tragic moments in the history of the 20th century are retraced.<\/p>\n

Subsequent works include: La ragazza di via Maqueda<\/em> (2009), in which intertwine stories of characters emblematic of a generation formed after World War II, with their illusions and disappointments, emblematic of an Italy in turmoil. She is also the author of essays, theatrical plays and screenplays, as well as film and theater director.<\/p>\n

In 2012 she was awarded the Fondazione Campiello Lifetime Achievement Award. His more recent works include Three Women<\/em> (2019), In the Name of Hypatia<\/em> (2023) and Dear Pierpaolo, letters to a dead friend <\/em>(2023). In 2024 she published Vita mia<\/em>, an account of two years in concentration camp in Japan for anti-fascism.<\/p>\n

In 2015, as a result of extensive documentation work, he completed a project to restore the bas-relief depicting the Lion of St Mark on the Old Town Square in Warsaw.<\/p>\n

In 2017, he collaborated on the publications \u201cVenice \u2013 Threats and Perspectives\u201d and \u201cVenice \u2013 Potential\u201d, published by the Krakow University of Technology.<\/p>\n

In 2021, he directed the film Warsaw Reads Dante<\/em> on the occasion of the Danted\u00ec event.<\/p>\n
