Hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder: Ukrainian and German children’s book publishers come up with innovative sales cooperative<\/strong><\/p>\n

Successful projects in various EU countries have financed Ukrainian children’s books for refugee children and families, which were mostly reprinted in the West. A new approach was taken by “Chas Maistriv” and “Edition Bracklo”, two independent children’s book publishers from Kyiv and Birkenwerder near Berlin respectively, who recently teamed up for a few titles from Ukraine. They adopted a “piggyback process” for their sales cooperative. German, Austrian and Swiss bookshops could purchase original Ukrainian children’s books from “Chas Maistriv” at usual bookstore conditions. To make this possible, Edition Bracklo let them use its publishing number and distribution network in Germany. This concept is humanitarian, economic and sustainable \u2013 as well as collegial and forward-looking in the best sense of the word. The publishers Oleg Symonenko and Gabriela Bracklo met exactly one year ago here at the Warsaw Book Fair 2022.

This is a historical novel that you need to read to know and remember.<\/p>\n

It is a reflection of our present in the events that took place almost a hundred years ago. And in this difficult time for Ukraine, the novel is extremely relevant in order to prevent the historical events from happening again, to pay tribute to those who went through those trials and to become stronger every day by reading it.<\/p>\n

The work deals with the time of the Great Terror, the time of interrogations, sentences without trial, executions and camps. It was a time of survival and struggle against the system.<\/p>\n

Not as much is known about the Akmola camp for wives of traitors in Kazakhstan as it should be, so this book is worth reading. The author relied on historical sources when writing the work, reflecting the everyday life of women. And she raised the issue of motherhood.<\/p>\n

“Three Promises” is a novel not only about terrible trials but also about friendship, faith, and support. It’s about life contrary to the plans of the Soviet leaders.<\/p>\n

Presentation of Bohdan Obraz’s novel “Lviv-Lyon. Instagram”<\/strong><\/p>\n

The novel can be considered a short guide to the history and sights of Lviv and Lyon. The protagonist comes from a traditional bourgeois family from the city center of Lyon, with a quiet life and a secure future. His girlfriend Laura is an Instagram blogger, which negatively affects their relationship. By chance, the hero meets Olya from Lviv on social media, instantly falls in love, and begins to take a deeper interest in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

It turns out that the protagonist’s grandfather and great-grandfather are from Lviv, as well as the mysterious Aunt Sophie, whose memories are transporting to Lviv from different periods.<\/p>\n

The novel combines the parallels between the two cities of Lviv and Lyon, and explores the impact of Instagram on our habits, consumption and relationships.<\/p>\n

The book was written between 2016 and 2020, after the Maidan and before the full-scale invasion. As such, it is a testament to an era that can be called the Ukrainian ann\u00e9es folles – the frenetic years of the interwar period, when Ukrainian culture, art and culinary diversity were rapidly developing and Ukraine became attractive for tourism.<\/p>\n
