Italian writer. An author of fiction, poetry, theater and nonfiction, and an investigator of the condition of women, she has often outlined complex and determined female figures in her texts, included in a broader reflection on multiple social issues, approached from a historical perspective. With The Long Life of Marianna Ucrìa she won the Campiello Prize in 1990. With the short story collection Buio (1999) she won the Strega Prize.
In 2007 she published Il gioco dell’universo, in which she rereads her father’s writings, reconstructing his intellectual and existential journey, and Passi affrettati, a theatrical text dedicated to the theme of violence against women, which was staged on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women; 2008 is also dated Il treno dell’ultima notte, in which following the private story of the protagonist, some of the most tragic moments in the history of the 20th century are retraced.
Subsequent works include: La ragazza di via Maqueda (2009), in which intertwine stories of characters emblematic of a generation formed after World War II, with their illusions and disappointments, emblematic of an Italy in turmoil. She is also the author of essays, theatrical plays and screenplays, as well as film and theater director.
In 2012 she was awarded the Fondazione Campiello Lifetime Achievement Award. His more recent works include Three Women (2019), In the Name of Hypatia (2023) and Dear Pierpaolo, letters to a dead friend (2023). In 2024 she published Vita mia, an account of two years in concentration camp in Japan for anti-fascism.
POLITICAL ACTIVITY
Giulio Tremonti is the Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign and EU Affairs of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies.
He is a Member of the Italian Parliament since 1994.
He has been Minister of Finance, Minister of Economy and Finance, Vice-President of the Chamber of Deputies, Vice-President of the Council of Ministers.
ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
He is the President of Aspen Institute Italia.
A university professor since 1974, he was a full professor at the Faculty of Law at Pavia’s University.
He is the author of various publications, including: “Guerra o Pace” (2025); “Globalizzazione. Le piaghe e la cura possibile” (2022); “Le tre profezie – Appunti per il futuro” (2019); co-author with V. Sgarbi of “Rinascimento” (2017); “Mundus Furiosus” (2016); “Bugie e Verità- La ragione dei popoli” (2014) and many others.
Giulio Tremonti was Visiting Professor at the Institute of Comparative Law at Oxford University.
He has participated in numerous debates and lectured in Italy and abroad: Oxford Union Society; Cambridge Union Society; Humboldt Universität; Chatham House; Freiburg Universität – Walter Eucken-Vorlesung; Yale University – School of Law; Herzliya Conference; Central School of the Chinese Communist Party.
He has been publishing articles in the “Corriere della Sera” daily newspaper since 1984.
He is co-editor of the “Rivista di diritto finanziario e scienza delle finanze” journal.

In Venice, he has worked with newspapers, television and radio for many years and was editor-in-chief of the Lagunamare magazine for 18 years. Long-standing member of the press office of the Venice Carnival and the Venice Boat Show.
Author of numerous articles and videos. Creator of the Gazzetta Italia award. Organiser of exhibitions and events. From Warsaw, he supports various Italian media, including several RAI programmes, as a correspondent and producer.
In 2022, he provided journalistic and production support for the film ‘MUR’, an award-winning documentary by Kasia Smutniak.
He is the author or co-author of the following publications: Veneziani quasi famosi (LT2), Lidhollywood (I Antichi Editori), Un secolo di Calcio Venezia (I Antichi Editori), La storia della Compagnia de Calza «I Antichi» (I Antichi Editori), Cent’anni da Leoni (Finegil).
In 2015, as a result of extensive documentation work, he completed a project to restore the bas-relief depicting the Lion of St Mark on the Old Town Square in Warsaw.
In 2017, he collaborated on the publications “Venice – Threats and Perspectives” and “Venice – Potential”, published by the Krakow University of Technology.
In 2021, he directed the film Warsaw Reads Dante on the occasion of the Dantedì event.
In 2023, he published his first novel, Corte Polacca, wenecjanin w Warszawie (Corte Polacca, a Venetian in Warsaw), published by Austeria, which was translated into Polish in 2025.
Born in 1964, one of Italy’s most respected writers and screenwriters. He made his debut in 1999. Sonia Draga Publishing published “The Man from the Silo”, “The Angel of Death” and “The King of Coins”, a series that brought the author international success. All of his novels have become bestsellers.
