We invite you to a unique concert that brings together two distant, yet remarkably kindred musical traditions — Polish and Korean.
An evening filled with emotion, subtle sounds, and artistic dialogue. The programme features a piano recital inspired by Polish music, including works by Frédéric Chopin in arrangements by Franz Liszt, as well as compositions by Liszt himself.
The second part of the event will present a K-Gagok concert — traditional Korean art songs — performed by artists from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music. This is a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the emotional depth and beauty of Korean vocal music.

The programme includes two of Frédéric Chopin’s most significant large-scale works—Ballades No. 3 and No. 4—showcasing both lyrical depth and dramatic narrative. It also features piano transcriptions of Chopin’s Polish Songs by Franz Liszt, offering a unique reinterpretation of his vocal music in a pianistic language.
Further expanding on Liszt’s stylistic world, the recital includes selected works from Années de pèlerinage, Deuxième année: Italie, such as Sposalizio and the monumental Après une lecture du Dante, reflecting literary and philosophical inspirations transformed into virtuosic piano expression.

About the artist
Kwanwook Lee is a South Korean pianist with an impressive educational background and international stage experience. He studied in Seoul (Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School, Yonsei University), and later in Germany at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, where he completed his master’s degree and is currently pursuing the prestigious Konzertexamen program. His artistic development has been shaped by distinguished teachers including Sangmi Lee, Kyung-Sook Lee, and Alfredo Perl.
He is a prizewinner of international piano competitions, including the MozArte International Piano Competition in Aachen and the Marbella International Piano Competition. In 2025, he performed on the main stage during the finals of the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw—an important milestone in his career. Gramophone magazine praised his Chopin interpretations for their “natural flow of narrative and poetic depth.”
Kwanwook Lee has performed at festivals and venues across Europe and Asia, including France, Spain, Japan, and Korea, and has collaborated with the Symphonisches Orchester des Landestheaters Detmold. He is currently active as a chamber musician and accompanist at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, while continuing an intensive concert career.

– UMFC Artists
Artyści UMFC K-Gagok zaprezentują koncert koreańskich pieśni artystycznych (gagok), w wykonaniu zróżnicowanej grupy śpiewaków z Uniwersytetu Muzycznego Fryderyka Chopina w Warszawie.

About the concert
The UMFC K-Gagok Artists present a concert of Korean art songs (gagok), performed by a diverse group of vocalists from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
The programme spans a wide range of contemporary and traditional Korean art songs by composers such as Suin Lee and Isang Yoon, showcasing rich poetic expression, emotional depth, and the close relationship between literature and music. Through these works, the concert creates an artistic dialogue between Korean and Polish cultures.
Presented as part of the Warsaw International Book Fair, the concert reflects a broader artistic vision: reinterpreting Korean literature through music within a Polish cultural context. This collaboration aims to deepen cultural exchange between Korea and Poland and to further develop artistic communication through vocal music.

The UMFC K-Gagok Artists is a project ensemble composed of singers from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. It was established to promote Korean art song (k-gagok) in Poland and to foster artistic exchange.
This concert centers around soprano Ae Ran Kim, a faculty member at the university, and features professors and students from the Vocal and Acting Department. Focusing on Korean art song, the programme offers new interpretations that connect literature and music, creating a meaningful artistic dialogue between Korean and Polish cultures.
In recent years, international interest in Korean art song has been steadily growing, supported by initiatives such as the K-Gagok Superstar competition organized by Korean Broadcasting System. Within this context, the concert provides an opportunity to introduce this repertoire more broadly to audiences in Poland.
Held as part of the Warsaw International Book Fair, the event represents an important effort to reinterpret Korean literature through music in a Polish artistic setting, while strengthening cultural exchange and dialogue through vocal art.
